Description: A couple of our diehard fans were over the moon when Painted Red was released. They also said "could you imagine if this had a little more hop character...kind of like a red IPA"? So we broke out the legal pad and tried to connect the dots. Everything pointed to more hops, and more hop flavor. The flow charts said, "FRESH HOP THE DAMN THING!!!!!"

To facilitate all that green, we made a couple of really small tweaks to our grain bill. You definitely need some body - but maybe a wee bit less sweetness, and more toasty character. We also wanted to pair the perfect hop for the brew, so we chose Centennial from Crosby Hops in Oregon, and used it in a fairly large fresh hop steep. We pulled it back by a third from our fresh hop IPA’s. Which if were being honest, already use more fresh hop pounds per barrel then a lot of brewers generally use.

This red drinks big and balanced. Aromatics of ruby red grapefruit and pine crawl out of the glass. The mid palate reminds you why malty beers rule with their bready warmth and complex flavors. The finish is all Centennial. I don’t wanna be too suggestive, but its got a badass watermelon candy vibe. Very low lingering sweetness. Ample bitterness.

It's just right.

"REDS ARE BACK BABY (in your best George Costanza voice)!" Get it, keep it cold, and drink it fresh. We literally can only make these fresh hopped beers one month out of the year when the hops are harvested.

WARNING: similar to many juices, kombucha, and other beverages you'll find in the grocery store, this product has not been pasteurized, and therefore may contain harmful bacteria that can cause serious illness in children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems.
PLEASE NOTE: like other beverage industries have been doing for centuries, we mitigate the potential for bacterial growth in other ways, rather than to pasteurize and destroy the nuanced flavors that make our beer stand out from many pasteurized non-alcoholic beer offerings, though we do acknowledge pasteurization is the most effective way to inhibit bacterial growth, or potential for refermentation in the can. Risk may be exacerbated by prolonged warm storage, so to mitigate risk, always cold-store Self Care immediately upon receipt, and avoid exposure to extreme heat.
